Frequently Asked Questions

How do I look up a word?

Yomabi supports four input methods. You can type in English, romaji, hiragana, katakana, or kanji; point the camera at Japanese text and tap a word; draw a character by hand if you don't know how to type it; or speak the word using voice search.

The camera isn't recognizing text correctly. What can I do?

OCR accuracy depends on lighting, focus, and contrast. For best results:

How do flashcards and spaced repetition work?

Tap the flashcard icon on any dictionary entry to add it to a deck. Yomabi schedules reviews using a spaced-repetition algorithm so you see harder words more often and easier ones less often. You can organize cards into custom decks and track progress with study statistics.

Can I import my Anki decks?

Yes. Yomabi supports importing and exporting Anki (.apkg) files. Use the import option in the flashcards screen to bring in an existing deck, or export your Yomabi decks as .apkg to use elsewhere.

How do I restore my Pro purchase on a new device?

Open the app's Settings and tap "Restore Purchases." As long as you're signed in with the same App Store or Google Play account you used to purchase Pro, your upgrade will be restored automatically. Purchases are tied to your store account, not to any Yomabi account (there are none).

Is my data synced across devices?

No — Yomabi stores all your data locally on the device for privacy reasons. There are no user accounts and no cloud sync. If you switch devices, you can export your flashcard decks as .apkg and import them on the new device.

Does Yomabi work offline?

Yes. The dictionary, OCR, handwriting recognition, voice search, and flashcards all run fully on-device and work without an internet connection. The only features that require a network are rewarded ads (for bonus OCR lookups) and in-app purchase verification.

How do I delete my data?

All your data is stored locally. You can clear individual items in the app (search history, flashcards, favorites), clear all app data from your device settings, or uninstall the app to remove everything. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
